Subject to the vagaries of an up and down oil and gas industry, the Four Corners Region of Northwestern New Mexico determined to diversify its’ economic base and position the region as one that is able to produce the highest quality workforce for existing and new industries. They recognized that their community must prove the quality and availability of the workforce in order to identify and recruit new industry to the area.

Hiring Solution: Skills Based Hiring Using WorkKeys®
Four Corners Economic Development, with funding from Innovate+Educate and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation launched the Skill Ready Four Corners initiative which is being used to assess and certify the skills of their current workforce. In addition to incorporating skills-based hiring tools into local businesses hiring, community members are encouraged and supported in certifying and improving their skills. This includes the entire workforce pipeline from high school and community college students, unemployed and underemployed job seekers to the currently employed.
